Summary

Whilst you are able to apply metadata using the 'Properties' tool on a document by document basis, you can apply and edit metadata in bulk using a 'Comma Separated Values' file, known as a CSV. They're typically used following a large upload of documents to a folder as a CSV can be exported from the platform, updated in Excel and imported to amend the metadata of documents in bulk.

The aim of the session is to understand what a CSV is and how they are used to amend metadata.

By the End

You should have been shown the following:

  • What a CSV is and how to export them from the platform
  • How you can use a load file from clients to update a CSV
  • How to import a CSV into the platform

Points to Note:

  • Any metadata fields that are not being updated using the CSV should be deleted before you save and import the file to prevent any unnecessary changes being made to documents

Following the Session

Ensure you can do the following:

  • Uploaded a folder of documents to in-progress. Exported a CSV, updated it and imported the file into the platform to update metadata of documents
    • Once completed, has the folder been moved to the correct location within the shared bundle, using the 'Move' and 'Re-Order' tools where necessary
  • Upload a set of documents to in-progress and used a CSV to update the metadata
    • Once completed, have the documents been moved to the correct location within existing folders in the shared bundle, using the 'Move' and 'Re-Order' tools where necessary
  • Used a CSV to update metadata of documents that already exist in the bundle
